Chole Puffs/ Channa Puffs

When I was working in Hyderabad, I used to have veggie puffs at a regular basis in my office cafeteria. I love puffs!!! Some days back I had Channa Puffs in Hot Breads, I did not like the taste. From then I want to prepare them myself at home, last weekend made these channa puffs and I & my hubby enjoyed them to the full. What a yummy snack  :)

Puffs are snack items and they can be filled with a variety of ingredients like vegetables, keema, eggs, potato or paneer. I used frozen puff pastry sheets. These Chole Puffs are simple and easy evening time snack.

Ingredients:
Puff Pastry Sheets – 1 box
For Stuffing
Onions- 1 no
Channa – 2 cups soak overnight
Cumin powder – ½ tsp
Chole masala or Garam masala – 1 tsp

Red Chilli powder
Salt
Lemon Juice - 2 tsps
Coriander leaves - 3 tsps
Chaat Masala – ½ tsp
Turmeric powder –a pinch
Oil – 1 tsp
Milk - 4 tsps

Preparation
  • Take the Puff Pastry sheets from refrigerator and thaw them based on the instructions at room temperature for 40 minutes
  • Meanwhile make chole stuffing, by taking a pan heat oil on medium heat.
  • Add Onions and sauté till soft.

  • Now add soaked chole by removing water. Add salt, turmeric powder.
  • Mix well and cook for 5 minutes.
  • Now add cumin powder, chaat masala, chole masala, red chilli powder, lemon juice, coriander leaves and mix well.
  • Cook for another 5 minutes.
  • Take the Pastry sheets strips and cut into small squares.
  • Put 1 tsps of stuffing in the center of the sheet.
  • Fold the Pastry sheets to make shapes. To seal puffs use a fork and gently press the sides.
  • Take oven safe tray line with foil.
  • Place puffs in oven above tray and brush on the top of puffs with milk.
  • Pre heat the oven to 400 F and bake for 15 minutes.
  • Remove from oven and cool from for 5 minutes.
  • Serve hot with ketchup.

  17. Purrrrfect!
When we go to Indian cafe here, the only thing we order are the veggie puffs, thinking that this is something we can't make at home, so might as well eat this outside instead of other regular stuff.
I'm sure many people think the same :D
And now looks like I can give this one a shot at home! :D
